Connaught Track and Field Championships U13-U19

Westport Athletics Clubs U13-U19 travelled to Athlone recently to compete in the Connaught Track and Field championships, and had an extremely successful day, with some excellent performances resulting in 11 Connaught titles, 3 silver medals and 5 bronze.
In the U13 girls Aishling Halpin Fahey won a gold medal in the Javelin with a throw of 16.8m and a bronze in the long jump(4.11m). Ava Lynne Kane came third in the sprints in a time of 11.96s and also in the 600m in a time of 1:52.59.
In the under 14 girls both Kate O’Malley and Sarah Twohig won gold in the Shot putt(9.52m) and the hammer throw(21.45m) respectively. The U14 boys saw Aaron Doherty winning silver in the 1500m(4:50.28) and Patrick Chambers the bronze(4:57.17), while Cian McAllister came fourth in the 800m(2:27.30).
Aoife O’Brien came home second in the U15 girls 2K walk(13:21.67) and fourth in the 1500m(5:28.42). Jennifer Chambers won triple gold with a throw of 20.7m in the U15 girls javelin, 8.79m in the shot putt and 19.40m in the discus.
In the U16 girls Sorcha McAlister won gold in the high jump and silver in the 1500m(5:02.90)
In the U18 boys Daniel Lavelle came first in the discus(29.27m) while Diarmuid McGreal took the bronze in the 100m sprint(12.49s).
Last, but not least, in the U19 girls Ellen Moran came home first in the 3000m while Jason Gavin took double gold with a time of 52.98s in the U19 boys 400m and 2:10.98 in the 800m.
All these athletes will go on to represent the club in the All Ireland championships, which take place in Tullamore over the two weekends of July 6th/7th and 20th/21st. RESULTS ON RESULTS PAGE
