Westport AC was the largest Juvenile Athletics club in Mayo and the eighth largest in Ireland in April 2024, report showing below.
Based on our current juvenile numbers of 407, this would put us as the third largest Juvenile club in Ireland after Dundrum South Dublin AC and Bandon AC Cork, based on their figures in April 2024.
In September 2023 we had 288 juvenile members so a growth of over 40% in one year with total club membership at over 520 and climbing each week.
This growth is in no small part to our wonderful team of coaches who are nurturing our athletes and giving them space to enjoy getting fit in a fun way.
We have also had huge investment in our facilities in Horkan's Hill and are eagerly awaiting a tartan track in the coming months.
We are forever indebted to the generosity and support of so many wonderful businesses and individuals in our Community.
Westport Athletic Club athletes travelled to Tullamore last weekend to take part in the All-Ireland Outdoor Track and Field Championships and brought home 2 gold and 3 silver medals.
Allanah Gannon won gold in the U13 Girls’ High Jump with a tremendous jump of 1.47m, a PB for Allanah. Niamh McLoughlin also came home with Gold and her fifth back-to -back Outdoor National Title in the Girls’ U16 Shot Putt with a throw of 10.92m.
Silver medals went to three of our middle distance runners – Patrick Chambers in a time of 1min 43.48secs in the U12 Boys’ 600m, David Harper in 1min 57.78secs in the U17 Boys’ 800m and Anthony Chambers in 1min 59.51secs in a tightly fought U18 Boys’ 800m.
There were many other fine performances across the weekend. Congratulations to all of these athletes and good luck to all our other athletes taking part in the second weekend of finals, which will be held in Tullamore on the Weekend of July 23rd/24th. More photos to follow.
