Westport Athletic Club juvenile athletes travelled to Athlone recently to compete in the Connaught Indoor Championships and came home with an abundance of medals and many places secured in the All Ireland finals. Aishling Halpin Fahy has an great day taking the silver medal in the U14 long jump together with a bronze in the shot put. Kate O'Malley took gold in the U15 girls shot put with a PB of 9.14m, Jennifer Chambers gold in the U16 girls shot put with a PB of 9.92m.  The field performance of the day must go to Adam Sheridan who won gold in the U13 boys shot put with a PB of 12.33m an astounding 3 and a half metres ahead of second place.  

Malcom McEvilly came home with double gold securing 1st place in the U12 boys high jump, together with a gold in the 600m in a fantastic time of 1.51.65, over 4 seconds ahead of his nearest rival.
Saoirse O'Brien won gold in the U13 girls 600m in a time of 1.48.88, a brilliant 5 seconds ahead of second place.
The U13 boys relay team of Rossa McAllister, Cillian Heaney, Kian Moore and Oisin Ryall came home in third place.
Cillian Heaney also won a further three individual medals with a bronze in the U13 boys 600m, adding to a silver in the 60m hurdles and a gold in the 60m sprint in 8.58secs, a new PB for this impressive athlete.
Aoife O'Brien took 1st place in the U16 girls 1500m in a time of 5.13.99 and also second in the 800m. Sorcha McAllister won the silver medal in the U17 girls 1500m.  Nathan Knop came second as a guest in the Senior men's high jump. There were other fine performances from Katie Johnston, Tommy Scahill, Alisha Eade Kalala, Harrison Quinn, Eimhear Corduff, Briana Bruton, Ted Horan and Anna O'Riain,
All of the medal winning athletes have now qualified for the All Ireland Indoor Championships which take place in Athlone March 22nd/23rd and 29th.
