Last Sunday Westport AC travelled to Nenagh for the second day of the Connaught Juvenile Indoor Championships with srints, middle distance, walks and relays taking place.

The first Westport athlete to win a medal was Ellen Moran in the U18 girls 1500m where she had a marvellous performance and won the first gold medal of the day.  David Harper was next in the U18 boys 1500m, where he stormed home, well ahead, also taking gold.

The next event was the walks where Mathew O'Malley came first in the U15 boys 1000m, with a fine performance. This was followed by Aisling Henaghan bringing home a silver medal in the U18 girls 1500m walk.

In the U18 boys 800m David Harper won his second gold in a thrilling race.  Ava-lynne Kane won her first indoor Connaught medal with a bronze in the U12 girls 600m.  Next was Luke Dawson, who ran a brilliant race, taking a silver medal in the U12 boys 600m.  In the U13 boys 600m Patrick Chambers also brought home a silver medal.

Last, but by no means least, were the 200m sprints where Diarmuid McGreal had a fine race coming home third.  Next was Cliona O'Malley who also won a bronze medal in the U18 girls 200m.  Final medal of the day went to Cathy McKenna who won a silver in the U19 girls 200m, another great performance.

All of  these athletes have now qualified for the All Ireland Indoor Juvenile Championships which will be held in Nenagh on the weekends of 24/25th March and  31st March/1st April. Click Here for Results.
