Last Saturday Westport AC travelled to Claremorris for the first day of the Connaught Juvenile Indoor Championships with the hurdles and all the field events taking place.  Normally held in Nenagh, this was the first time Claremorris hosted these Championships in their new indoor arena, an excellent facility.

The first athlete to perform was Alannah Gannon in the U14 girls hurdles where she had a marvellous performance, a pb of 9.9secs and the first gold medal of the day.

Next was the Shot Putt where all of our athletes brought home a medal.  First up was Jennifer Chambers who came first with a brilliant throw of 9.32m in the U14 girls.  This was followed by Cian Geraghty in the U14 boys taking the bronze.  Next was U13 girls, where Kate Chambers took the silver and Lauren Coyle the bronze with some excellent throwing.

The U14 girls long jump again led to two more medals with Alannah Gannon jumping an excellent 4.61m and another gold medal together with Tara McGreevy winning the bronze.

Last, but by no means least was the High Jump where Saoirse Gannon won a bronze medal in the U13 girls.  This was followed by a third gold medal for her sister Alannah in the U14 girls, with an amazing performance, a pb of 1.57m and a new Club Record for Westport AC.

All of  these athletes have now qualified for the All Ireland Indoor Juvenile Championships which will be held in Nenagh on the weekends of 24/25th March and  31st March/1st April.

Day 2 of the Connaught Championships(all track events) will be held in Nenagh on Sunday March 11th.
