The magnificent achievements by Westport athletes in 2009 were reflected in the number of awards won both individually and by the club at the annual Mayo Awards ceremony which was held in Balla on Friday 26th February.
Outstanding achievement awards went to Caoimhe King for her record breaking year in triple jump, Pamela Hughes for winning the ladies high jump at the National Senior Indoor Championships, Cian McManamon, Niamh McLoughlin and Clara Tierney all of whom won two gold medals at the National Championships.
High achievement awards went to  Anthony Chambers, Katie Hyland, Deena Sadik, Sarah Lavelle and Laimonas Ruibys who all won gold at the National Championships.
Achievement Certificates went to all the athletes who won silver and bronze medals at the National Championships. they wer Ashling Heneghan (Walk), Joe Conway (High Jump), David Harper (Hurdles), Ronan Kelly (Long Jump), Michael McLoughlin (Walk), Daniel Lavelle (Discus), Tony Sadik (High Jump) and Ashling Halpin/fahy / Megan Nugent in the Team Sprint. Also the team of Katie Hyland, Deena Sadik, Ellen Moran and Cathy McKenna who won the bronze medal in the sprint relay at the Indoors.
In Cross Country, Westport enjoyed more success. Both david Harper and Ellen Moran won magnificent individual silver medals in the National Cross Country Championships and were honoured by being named male (shared) and female cross country athletes of the year.
