The Connacht Uneven Aged Cross Country Championship along with Senior Leg 3 will be hosted by Corran AC/Sligo Co Board on Sunday the 5th of November in Ballymote, Co. Sligo F56 XT29 with a start time of 11am sharp.

Westport athletes took home a total of 7 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze medal at the recent Connaught Indoor Championships on February 24th and 25th. This continued the club’s remarkable success in juvenile athletics. The highly impressive indoor arena of AIT hosted these championships.

The curtain came down on the club cross country season with the even-age athletes battling it out for honours in Abbottstown (Dublin) on 26th Nov, followed by the unevens in Waterford on 17th Dec. Brackloon National School is situated just off the N59 Leenane/Clifden Rd. From Westport travel about 6 kms until you see signs for Knappagh. After the service station in Knappagh take the first turn right (immediately after a bend on the road so care is advised). This turn is signposted for Owenwee Kennels. Travel on this road for 400m and veer right at next junction - school signs and school will be viewable from this junction.

Due to the recent inclement weather Swinford AC are having to change the cross country venue for this Sunday 8th October, it will now take place on 'Mellett's Hill' which is opposite the Corrib Oil filling station just off the N5 on the Ballina turn off. The tree sheltered surroundings of the Tullamore Harriers track hosted the recent All Ireland championships over 2 weekends in July. July has been a busy month for the talented group of Westport AC athletes who competed in the All-Ireland championships over two separate weekends in Tullamore. The GloHealth Tailteann Games took place in Morton Stadium on June 25th last. Athletes from schools in Connacht, Leinster, Munster and Ulster competed in this U17 age category for provincial honours. Our own Aoife O'Brien representing Sacred Heart School, finished in an impressive 3rd position in the grueling 1500m steeplechase event. Westport athletes took home a total of 12 gold, 6 silver and 3 bronze medals at the Connaught Indoor Championships over the weekend of February 21st and 22nd. In addition to this haul of individual medals, the impressive U12 girls 4x100m relay team of Leila O’Malley, Lilas Houalet, Sarah Mulroy and Claire Conway also romped home in style in 1st place. The 2016 Mayo C & C Cellular/Vodafone Mayo U8 - U18 Indoor Athletic Championships took place in Claremorris at the weekend. Nine clubs took part but unfortunately Clare Island could not travel due to weather conditions. Over five hundred and fifty athletes competed in a range of sixteen different disciplines. Braving Storm Desmond and struggling with wet, sticky post-deluge conditions underfoot didn’t knock a spark out of the large group of Westport athletes who competed on December 6th at the Glo-Health Uneven Ages National Cross Country Championships in Dungarvan, Co Waterford.
The athletes, from under 11 to 17 put in gritty performances to come away with a team gold medal for the under 13 boys and team bronze medals for the under 15 and 17 boys.

Westport AC athlete Saoirse O’Brien won the U14 girls individual gold and the boys U12, boys U14 and boys U16s all won team gold medals at the GloHealth National Inter Club and Juvenile Even Age Cross Country Championships held in Santry on November 22nd. The O’Brien sisters from Islandeady were the golden girls for Westport at the recent uneven ages Connacht Cross Country Championships in Boyle when they each stormed home to win their races in under 13, under 15 and under 17.
Roisin, running out of age, left the field standing in the under 13 girls race. Saoirse, also running out of age, did the same in the under 15 girls race and older sister Aoife had a fantastic run to take the under 17 girls title in style.

A number of Westport AC athletes travelled to a wet and windy venue at Calry Sligo recently to compete in the Connacht Even Ages Cross Country Championships, hosted by Leitrim AC.

Sweltering heat and exciting competition was on the menu for the final weekend of the Woodie’s DIY National Juvenile Championships. The large crowds along with the glorious sunshine made for two tremendous days of competition as Ireland’s stars of the future came together in the hunt for national titles.

Westport Athletics Club Ellen Moran earned her first Irish jersey for mountain running when she competed in the European Mountain Running Championships in Borovets, Bulgaria last weekend (July 6th). The first weekend of Woodie’s DIY Juvenile All Ireland Track and Field Championships for U12-U19 took place last weekend in Tullamore. The event saw Ireland’s top up and coming athletes in action, battling it out for a coveted national title. The athletes had come come through tough qualifying competitions at regional level in order to earn a place in the national finals and it was an exciting weekend of athletics.

Westport Athletics Clubs U13-U19 travelled to Athlone recently to compete in the Connaught Track and Field championships, and had an extremely successful day, with some excellent performances resulting in 11 Connaught titles, 3 silver medals and 5 bronze.

The Woodie’s DIY even age inter county cross country championships were held in the superb surroundings of Tattersalls in Ratoath, County Meath last Sunday and 22 athletes from Westport AC competed. Last Saturday Westport AC travelled to Claremorris for the first day of the Connaught Juvenile Indoor Championships with the hurdles and all the field events taking place. The third annual Western People West of Ireland Women’s Mini Marathon will take place in Castlebar on Sunday, May 6, 2012. More than 5,000 women are expected to take part in this year’s event.
The event was officially launched in Áras an Chontae, Castlebar on Thursday evening, January 26, by Minister for Sport and Tourism, Michael Ring. Alannah Gannon, representing Westport AC, travelled to Nenagh last weekend to compete in Woodie's DIY Juvenile Indoor Combined Events Championships of Ireland. 21 of Ireland's top U14 athletes competed in this grueling 5-event competition. First up was the 60m Hurdles where Alannah excelled coming second in a PB of 10.04s. The Woodie’s DIY Novice and Uneven age group championships took place last Sunday at the Curragh Camp, Co. Kildare and Westport AC had 13 juvenile athletes competing.First up was the U11 Girls 1500m and Westport was well represented by Saoirse O'Brien, Briana Bruton, Sarah Staunton and Anna O'Riain, who all ran well in the race of over 150 competitors, with Saoirse O'Brian, running out of age, coming home in an excellent 17th position, surely a contender for next year.Next was the U11 Boys ... The inaugural Lough Furnace 10km race took place last Sunday December 4th at Derrada just outside Newport and was a tremendous success. The race was organised by Georgia MacMillan and Gerry Kilroy on behalf of Westport AC and sanctioned by AAI. Last Sunday the Woodie’s DIY Inter County and Juvenile Even Age Cross Country Championships of Ireland took place at the Racecourse, Sligo.
Westport Athletics Club had a very successful day with its boys U12 team taking the team silver medal in their 2km race. First in for the team was Patrick Chambers in second place followed by Cian McAllister in 22nd. Third home was Aaron Doherty in 26th position followed by Mark Moran in 54th. Ardrum in Ballinamore, Co. Leitrim was the host of the Connaught uneven age cross-country championships last Sunday. 19 Juvenile athletes from Westport AC travelled to compete with some excellent performances.

Westport AC had a host of impressive displays at the Connaught Even Age Cross Country Championships last weekend. The venue, Sligo Racecourse, proved to be extremely challenging.
The U12 girls 2km race was first, with Westport well represented by Ellen Noonan coming in 5th place, contributing to the county team taking home the gold medal. Large crowd at Mayo National Schools Cross Country Championships
The Mayo National Schools Cross Country championships were held at Ballina Athletic Club ground in Belleek, Ballina last Tthursday. Over five hundred athletes comepeted for all corners of Mayo.
